According to Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine, the short-term use of creatine increases the rate of conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone. In a study, the participating individuals used creatine for about three weeks and the result showed higher rates of conversions from testosterone to dihydrotestosterone in the experimental group as compared to the control group.

An increase in the levels of dihydrotestosterone may result in various negative outcomes that include hair loss and thinning of hair. A journal named Advances in Dermatology and Allergology has published findings that relate high levels of dihydrotestosterone to cases of alopecia and baldness in both men and women. Dihydrotestosterone being a highly potent androgen is hypothesized to impact the sensitivity of hair follicles in the androgen phase of growth. In the hair growth cycle, the androgen phase is the earliest phase and hence this will lead to hair falling out and not growing back without treatment.

One of the studies has even shown that creatine causes the reduction in the antioxidant levels in the body and this has a negative impact on health. A decrease in the level of antioxidants damages stress on cells and DNA throughout the body. The requirement of healthy hair growth is the effective cell activity, including cell division in the hair follicle.
