Insulin and insulin resistance:
Insulin is a hormone found in the human body that enables cells to take up glucose found in blood to be used as fuel (energy) or store it up as fat. This hormone is produced in the pancreas (an organ of the endocrine system). In the absence of insulin, glucose accumulates in the blood of an individual, hence, increasing the blood glucose level above the normal. If the increase is not too high, the individual will be diagnosed with prediabetes but if the blood glucose level increase is too high then you will be diagnosed with diabetes.
Signs of insulin resistance
Insulin resistance has no symptoms on its own. Nevertheless, if the blood sugar levels get way above the normal it can lead to diabetes which has as symptoms the following:
- The need to eat food substances with sugar and also with carbohydrate.
- Getting hungry frequently.
- Blurred vision.
- Belly fat.
- Dizziness and anxiety
- High levels of cholesterol in the blood.
Reverse insulin resistance:
After seeing all the above signs and symptoms of a medical complication that can originate from insulin resistance in the human body, it is only right for one to begin to think and to look for ways that can help to reverse insulin resistance. Well, if you fall into this category of persons don’t panic because there are many ways to reverse insulin resistance and below are just a few to help you get started.
- Consume More Fat and slow Burning Carbohydrates
Limit the consumption of processed food and sugar substances and rather take in healthy fats (mostly unsaturated and saturated fat e.g egg yolks, oil from coconut, bone broth, avocados, bacon, palm oil, olive oil, olives, and the list continues) and carbohydrates that burn slowly (e.g quinoa, squash, sweet potatoes, sprouted black rice, yams, wild rice, and the list continues).
- Get Moving and Exercising’
Double or triple the amount of time you spend moving a day and also take exercises. Doubling your exercises every day can be done in many ways such as going to the gym or jogging in the mornings or evenings or going for hikes with friends or taking dancing classes, and so on, you can improvise. just make sure you get out of your comfort zone. All of these exercises will help reduce your blood sugar level because they increase glucose uptake by increasing insulin sensitivity. if you take this seriously the days of you getting up in the morning and shaking will be history.
- Stability supplements
If you have been diagnosed of diabetes or you are just getting to make changes in your diet to reduce the amount of sugar you take in, you will realize that a little extra help will be very appealing. Stability supplements can be a very helpful tool to stop your craving for sugar. Some stability supplements include:
- L-glutamine: This is an amino acid that travels to the brain to be used as an energy source with great speed.
- Cinnamon: Increases metabolism of glucose by increasing insulin effectiveness in blood.
- Bone Broth: Bone broth contains glycine which is an amino acid that regulates the production of glucose from none carbohydrate sources, thus, regulating levels of sugar in the blood.
